MO Governor Parson signs bill HB 2010 providing funding for Recovery Support Services

2018 was a year of development and expansion for the Kansas City Recovery Coalition.

Here is a look back at some of the highlights of the last year:

January 29: First Call received South Kansas City Chamber’s Community Impact Award
March 17: Healing House opened their newest recovery home for men, McNeely House.
March 26: Benilde Hall received a grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines to rehabilitate Benilde Hall campus.
June 5: First Call received 5 years of federal funding for their ME After Reentry Program.
July 16: KC Recovery Coalition approved to host 10 Americorps Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) to stem the opioid epidemic.
July 17: Missouri Coalition of Recovery Support Providers (MCRSP) secured just over $2.6 million in funding in MO budget with bipartisan support from Sen Kiki Curls, Rep DaRon McGee, and. Holly Rehder.
July 23: Comprehensive Mental Health Services, INC. (CMHS) awarded an applicant defined grant by the Health Forward Foundation to support their recovery efforts.
Sept 1: KCRC kicked off Recovery Month with fellowship, celebrating our community at Recovery Fest in Concourse Park.
Sept 4: The first cohort of VISTAs swore into service for their member agencies of KCRC.
Sept 6: KCRC hosted the Unsung Heroes Luncheon and Awards, recognizing champions of recovery support and prevention in our community.
Sept 7: Ribbon cutting and open house ceremony for CMHS’s new Kansas City Recovery location.
Sept 8: Sarita Lynne Ministries performed “Reflections 2” a stage play at the Gem Theater to bring awareness to Recovery.
Sept 10: The KC Municipal Court is receiving a $1.9 million grant to expand the City’s Drug Court. The award from SAMHSA will be paid over five years, allowing the court to expand treatment and offer support services.
Sept 17: Healing House opened it’s new head quarters located at 4505 St. John AVE. The new location serves as the primary administration facility and computer lab.
Sept 21: Midwest Recovery Centers celebrated the grand opening of their new inpatient sober living facility.
October 3: Dr. Nancy Jo Kepple, and doctoral researcher Amittia Parker, of the University of Kansas School of Social Work presented their research study, “Resources and Gaps in Kansas City’s Substance Use Disorder Services.”  at Kauffman Conference Center.
November 8: First Call celebrated 60 years of reducing the impact of addiction in the greater Kansas City community.

…in addition KC-SATRSC was renamed Kansas City Recovery Coalition, incorporated with State of Missouri, and was granted tax exempt status with the IRS as a 501(c)(3).

Welcome New Members!

Arts Tech is a youth-serving business in the Arts Crossroads District that provides educational and health services as well as hands-on training in fine arts and digital literacy. Additionally, ArtsTech builds and manages collaborative public/private partnerships that benefit the community. Having a presence in the heart of the art and business districts is an enormous asset which indicates to our young people that they too can participate in Kansas City’s renaissance.

CommCARE is a not-for-profit behavioral health management organization that works in collaboration with Community Behavioral Health Centers and other providers to continually improve access to affordable, high quality, and effective behavioral health services.
